MG Flasher App Feature

BMW Car
Diagnostics

Connect to a supported vehicle and access ECU information, fault codes, adaptations, exhaust-flap controls, wastegate tests and selected service functions directly from the MG Flasher app.

Selected diagnostics do not require a Flashing License.A direct connection to the vehicle is still required.

Overview

More Than Reading
Fault Codes.

The MG Flasher Diagnostics page is available after connecting the app to the vehicle. It combines everyday troubleshooting tools with selected ECU, network and actuator functions.

The exact list may depend on the connected vehicle, ECU type, software support and app version. Some advanced actions can change ECU state or vehicle configuration and should be treated with care.

Where to find it
01Connect to the car 02Open My Car 03Diagnostics

A car connection is required for diagnostics, flashing, logging and actuator commands.

Core Diagnostic Tools

Read Vehicle and ECU Information.

Start with non-destructive information and fault-code functions before using advanced controls.

01Information

ECU Info

Read supported ECU software, coding and identification information.

02Fault Codes

Read DTC

Read supported diagnostic trouble codes together with available descriptions.

03Fault Codes

Clear DTC

Clear supported fault codes after the underlying condition has been resolved.

04Original File

Download Stock Map

Download the available original stock map stored for the connected vehicle.

Actuator & Vehicle Controls

Test Supported Vehicle Functions.

Use actuator controls carefully and only when the vehicle is in a safe state.

EX
Exhaust Flap

Open, Close or Return to Auto

Manually command the supported exhaust flap or return control to the ECU calibration.

WG
Wastegate

Open, Close, Auto and Test

Test supported wastegate positions and review the minimum and maximum operating points.

IGN
Ignition

Turn Ignition On or Off

Use the app to command supported ignition states where available.

ECU
Module Reset

Reset ECU or FEM

Reset supported modules. FEM reset may help with selected ENET connectivity issues.

Adaptation Resets

Reset Selected
Learned Values.

The Diagnostics page can reset supported adaptation groups such as mixture adaptation, VANOS, fuel-system values, Valvetronic lift and increment-wheel adaptation.

Adaptation resets can change how the engine behaves while values are relearned. They should not be used as a generic fix for unresolved mechanical, electrical or calibration problems.

Available groups may include
01Mixture Adaptation
02VANOS
03Fuel System
04Valvetronic Lift
05Increment Wheel
Check Engine Light & DTCs

Understand the Signal Before Clearing It.

The Check Engine Light can be used intentionally by Custom Code to confirm CCM states, active submenus, Ethanol Content Display, Anti-Lag operation or a Valet Mode exceeded-limit warning.

If the CEL remains continuously illuminated longer than the CCM timeout configured during flashing, it may be performing its normal OEM function and indicating an ECU fault. Read the stored DTCs before clearing codes, reflashing or changing multiple settings.

Possible ECU fault

Steady CEL

If the light remains continuously illuminated beyond the configured CCM timeout, open diagnostics and read the stored DTCs.

Custom Code Protection Faults

MG Flasher DTCs Visible in Car Diagnostics.

Compatible Custom Code can record dedicated protection faults that are available through the standard Read DTC page.

MGF001Limp Mode Active

MG Flasher protection mode has been triggered.

MGF002Motiv ReFlex Error

A supported ReFlex fault has been detected.

MGF003Ethanol Sensor Error

The configured ethanol sensor reports a fault.

MGF004Low Fuel Pressure

Low-pressure fuel data fell below the supported threshold.

MGF005Ethanol Sensor Timeout

No valid sensor message was received within the defined timeout.

Clearing a fault does not repair its cause.

If the triggering condition remains active, the DTC may return or may not clear. Record the codes and investigate the underlying condition before repeatedly clearing faults.

Advanced Functions

Use Only When Required.

These tools can alter ECU state, remove an unlock or depend on a fully stock configuration.

01

Restore Coding

Restore supported coding when original coding is missing or corrupted. Verify the current coding status first.

02

Uninstall / Flash to Stock

Restore factory software and relock the ECU. This can remove an existing bench or Femto unlock and require another unlock later.

03

Partial ECU Backup

Read selected ECU areas to a binary backup when the ECU is still inactive and running fully stock software.

!
Support-guided operations

MG Flasher documentation recommends using these advanced options only when requested or clearly understood.

Two Diagnostic Areas

Car Diagnostics vs Custom Code Diagnostics.

Both are available through the app, but they serve different purposes.

Vehicle & ECU

Car Diagnostics

ECU information, standard DTCs, actuator tests, adaptation resets, coding and selected module functions.

View Car Tools →
Custom Code Settings

Custom Code Diagnostics

Read and set supported On-The-Fly values such as map slots, burbles, Max Cooling, Anti-Lag RPM and other Custom Code settings.

Requirements

Connect Before You Diagnose.

Available functions depend on the vehicle and the active connection to its ECU.

01

MG Flasher App

Use the current supported version of MG Flasher on a compatible device.

02

ENET Connection

Connect to the vehicle with a supported ENET Wi-Fi adapter or compatible ENET cable setup.

03

Vehicle Connection

The app must be connected to the car to access vehicle diagnostics and actuator functions.

04

Safe Vehicle State

Keep the car stationary and follow the appropriate ignition or engine-state requirement for the selected command.

FAQ

BMW Car Diagnostics FAQ.

Common questions about MG Flasher diagnostic tools and requirements.

Do MG Flasher diagnostics require a Flashing License?

Selected diagnostic information and functions can be accessed without a Flashing License after connecting the app to a supported vehicle.

Can MG Flasher read and clear fault codes?

Yes. The Diagnostics page can read supported ECU DTCs and clear them. A fault may return if the underlying condition remains active.

Can I reset engine adaptations?

MG Flasher can reset selected supported adaptation groups. Use this only when appropriate because the ECU may need to relearn values afterward.

Can I test the exhaust flap and wastegate?

Supported vehicles may provide exhaust-flap commands and wastegate open, close, auto or test functions through the Diagnostics page.

What is the difference between Car Diagnostics and Custom Code Diagnostics?

Car Diagnostics focuses on ECU information, DTCs, actuators and service functions. Custom Code Diagnostics reads and changes supported On-The-Fly Custom Code values.

What does Uninstall / Flash to Stock do?

It restores factory software and relocks the ECU. It can remove a bench or Femto unlock and may require the ECU to be unlocked again before future tuning.

Should I use Restore Coding or Partial ECU Backup myself?

These are advanced operations. Follow MG Flasher Support instructions unless you fully understand the required conditions and consequences.
